Nail Bracing for Ingrown or Curved Nails

Nail Bracing

Ingrown toenails can be very frustrating. Often ingrown toenails are due to over growth of the nail down the side of the nail groove. If untreated, ingrown toenails can penetrate the skin and can cause recurring pain, soreness, pus and infections.

Ingrown toenails can be treated with conservative treatment such as cutting the nail back at an appropriate angle. In most cases, the nail can be managed and grow back straight.

If the ingrown nail can be managed by conservative methods, a nail brace is often recommended.

Generally a nail brace is recommended if you experience:

  • Slight discomfort from the nail pushing into the skin

  • Pain along the side of the nail, mostly at the tip

  • Nail shape with an increased curvature

Before any procedure is done, a surgical consultation will be given to see if you are a good candidate for a surgical procedure.
